Education information available in 6 languages

The DES has now published education information on its website in 6 languages - German, Latvian, Polish, Spanish, Lithuanian and Russian. It is hoped that the information will be of help to parents whose first language is not English and who have children of school age. The list of translated documents is below.

European Award for Languages

The European Award for Languages - the language label (EAL) is designed to recognise and endorse creative initiatives in language teaching and learning. It is awarded annually to a limited number of projects in each EU member country.
Applications are now invited for the 31st March 2006 deadline. The priorities for the European Award for Languages 2006 include:
- Initial and In-service Language Teacher Training
- Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)
- Languages in Transition Year
- Languages in Business
These priorities are not exclusive and a diverse range of projects with other perspectives are welcome to apply. Examples of winning projects can be found on our website http://www.leargas.ie/education/lingua/ell.html
There will also be an individual European Award for Languages in 2006 - the Language Ambassador of the Year- which will be awarded to the person who does most to promote language learning in the formal or non-formal sector. The deadline for application for the Language Ambassador of theYear Award is 30 April 2006.
