Additional Rules for the MAILING LISTS:
Background: One of the most supportive and immediate forms of support available to members are the “mailing lists”. If you are a new member (fáilte!), you will no doubt soon hear about this wonderful support facility, perhaps from local colleagues, at IPPN Conferences etc. Joining a mailing list is simply the easiest, fastest way to get support for your day to day queries.
When you join a mailing list, you have access to hundreds of queries that are asked by colleagues. You can also write an email to one of the mailing lists – anything from recommending equipment for a hearing-impaired pupil, to whether to facilitate a meeting with a ‘stepfather’ without the mother being present, etc.
These emails are the day to day queries that arise for which you can get almost instant support, whether it is the definitive Professional Advice from the principal advice panel (via the mailing list advice@ippn.ie) or from colleagues who may have dealt with similar situations in the past (via networking@ippn.ie).
Guidelines: Members' full name should be included with all messages posted by default. Full details are contained in the FAQ in Appendix A at the end of this page. You may not post, communicate, or otherwise distribute any material that may be unlawful, obscene, defamatory, threatening, infringing on any copyright or other rights of others, or damaging to software or hardware. Postings are expected to be professional in nature at all times - for example personalised comments should not be used. IPPN will make every effort to ensure that this professional tone is maintained and have set up a system of moderation to try to ensure that these guidelines are adhered to.
Commercial recommendations for various products and services are welcome as long as they are in context - ie rather than promoting a product/service, recommendations should be in response to a member query. In addition, recommendations from any members who are also interested parties in a product/service should be clearly highlighted in order to provide the full context of any/all recommendations.
IPPN does not hold archive data or mail released to the mailing lists by individual subscribers. Archives may be accessed by subscribers by topic and date and not indiviudlised mail.
Liability and Responsibility
You are legally responsible, and solely responsible, for any content that you post to a discussion. You may only post materials that you have the right or permission to distribute electronically. You agree to hold the sponsors of the IPPN Mailing Lists harmless from any and all liability arising from your posting of any materials.
Accuracy
IPPN can not and does not guarantee the accuracy of any statements made in or materials posted to the IPPN Mailing Lists by participants. Participants are assumed to be speaking in their personal capacity, unless they explicitly state that their contribution represents the views of their organization.
Copyright and Fair Use
As a participant in the IPPN Mailing Lists, you retain copyright of any materials of your own creation that you post to the IPPN Mailing Lists. Members are not authorised to reproduce or disseminate those materials outside the context of the mailing lists, unless specific permission is granted by the member.
IPPN retain the right to refuse to post any message that they consider to be in violation of the above rules and guidelines, and may publish the messages posted to the IPPN Mailing Lists in whole or in part.
Thank You.
Additional Rules for the "NOTICE BOARD":
The IPPN Discussion Boards (hereafter called the 'Notice Board') is an online facility where asynchronous conversations are published instantaneously. In addition to member comments, the Notice Board will also house an archive of the communications from our mailing lists. Members' full name will be included with all messages posted by default.
You may not post, communicate, or otherwise distribute any material that may be unlawful, obscene, defamatory, threatening, infringing on any copyright or other rights of others, or damaging to software or hardware.
Liability and Responsibility
You are legally responsible, and solely responsible, for any content that you post to a discussion. You may only post materials that you have the right or permission to distribute electronically. You agree to hold the sponsors of the IPPN Notice Board harmless from any and all liability arising from your posting of any materials.
Accuracy
IPPN can not and does not guarantee the accuracy of any statements made in or materials posted to the Notice Board by participants. Participants are assumed to be speaking in their personal capacity, unless they explicitly state that their contribution represents the views of their organization.
Copyright and Fair Use
As a participant in the Notice Board, you retain copyright of any materials of your own creation that you post to the Notice Board. However, you authorize other participants in the Notice Board to make personal and customary use of that work, including creating links to or reposting such materials to other Internet discussion sites, but not otherwise to reproduce or disseminate those materials unless you give permission. You agree always to identify the source and author of materials you download from the Notice Board if you repost them elsewhere.
The sponsors of the Notice Board retain the right to refuse to post any message that they consider to be in violation of the above rules, and may publish the messages posted to the Notice Board in whole or in part.
Thank You.
Appendix A - Mailing List FAQ
The following are the top technical / procedural queries which colleagues have been asking in relation to the networking@ippn.ie or advice@ippn.ie mailing list. Please keep a copy of this email, as it will prove useful for future reference. Below are the 8 questions with the answers to each of those queries.
1. Why am I receiving emails which are not addressed to me?
2. How can I stop receiving these emails?
3. Which mailing list(s) should I use for various types of query?
4. How can I join one of the many mailing lists?
5. Where can I get help if I need it?
6. What happens if I wish to change my email address / use another email address?
7. What happens if I forget to sign an email properly?
8. Is this mailing list confidential / secure?
Q&A 1. Why am I receiving emails which are not addressed to me?
======
The Networking Mailing list facilitates a peer-support community via email. Everyone in this community receives a copy of any/all emails sent via this special email address. In summary, it provides a mutually supportive forum for IPPN members to ask questions, seek advice and share best practice. If you are not familiar with how a mailing list works, please read Appendix 1 below
Q&A 2. How can I stop receiving these emails?
======
There are 2 routes:
a. Click REPLY to any one of the offending emails, and type the word: unsubscribe in the Subject Line. Send this and you will be immediately and automatically unsubscribed.
b. Visit the website. Under the 'Network' menu, click the item 'mailing lists', and there you can 'unsubscribe' / 'subscribe' from/to any mailing list by ticking the relevant boxes and sending your request using the button at the bottom.
Q&A 3. Which mailing list(s) should I use for various types of query?
======
Consider which of the 4 scenarios your email best fits:
a) Routine comment/query/answer:
Send to networking@ippn.ie, signed with name, locality or school, and county.
Colleagues WILL all get a copy of the query and will all be able to respond.
b) Sensitive but generically phrased: eg. "What's the situation where a separated parent wants access to ..."
Send to networking@ippn.ie, signed with name, locality or school, and county.
Colleagues WILL all get a copy of the query and will all be able to respond.
c) Sensitive or non-generic comments/queries:
To post a query containing sensitive information anonymously - Send a fully signed email to rachel.brannigan@ippn.ie, and ask that it be anonymised and then sent to networking@ippn.ie on your behalf.
Colleagues WILL all get a copy of the unsigned query and will all be able to respond.
d) Query for the IPPN Professional Advice panel:
Send to advice@ippn.ie, signed with name, locality or school, and county. Colleagues WILL all get a copy of the query but will NOT be able to respond. ONLY the Professional Advice panel can reply.
Q&A 4. How can I join one of the many mailing lists?
======
Visit www.ippn.ie and under the 'Network' menu, click the item 'mailing lists', and there you can 'unsubscribe' / 'subscribe' from/to any mailing list.
Q&A 5. Where can I get help if I need it?
======
For general support, you can contact the Support Office (support@ippn.ie or 1890 21 22 23).
For technical queries, contact tech@ippn.ie
Q&A 6. What happens if I wish to change my email address / use another email address?
======
To change the email at which you receive emails from networking@ippn.ie (and indeed all communications from IPPN), please contact the Support Office (support@ippn.ie or 1890 21 22 23) and ask them to change your contact email from currentemail@domain.ie to newdesiredemail@domain.ie.
Q&A 7. What happens if I forget to sign an email properly?
======
If you do not sign your name, location or school name, and county, your email will NOT be distributed, and you will receive the email in Appendix 2
Q&A 8. Is this mailing list confidential / secure?
======
No it is not secure. Although only email addresses from current IPPN membership have access to the mailing lists, it is possible for a member to forward a presumed 'private' email s/he gets via networking to a third party.
Although we can back-trace emails, and although sharing with third parties is prohibited in our protocols and terms & conditions, IPPN cannot guarantee total confidentiality/security.
In addition, members are advised NOT to share information which they would not be able to stand over from a professional point of view. The vast majority of potentially sensitive scenarios can be phrased in a generic, non-specific way. Others which you wish to be anonymous may be sent via support@ippn.ie using the procedure outlined in Q&A 3.
