FAQ: How are EAL Posts being allocated?
- Published: 09 December 2011
The overall number of EAL posts is due to reduce from the current level of about 900 posts to a reduced level of about 700 posts in 2014/2015 school year. Under the new arrangements the existing GAM posts and the existing EAL posts are being combined into a single and simplified allocation process. All schools will get a basic allocation (based on the number of classroom teaching posts in the 2011/12 school year) and an additional allocation is being given to schools with high concentrations of pupils that require EAL support. The full details on how this will operate are set out in the budgetary documentation that we have published as a featured link on the front page of the Department's website.
