IPPN / NAPD Survey on Attitudes & Aspirations towards the role of Principal

This survey was conducted to determine the persuading and dissuading factors that influence teachers in their decision to apply for the role of principal. The results were used as a basis for discussion at the symposium on "The challenge of Recruitment & Retention of School Leaders" which was a core part of the ICP Cork 2005 Conference attended by over 80 principals from primary and second-level schools from all over the world.

IPPN Survey of Newly Appointed Principals

The survey included such questions as the number of times posts were advertised, type of principalship, the number of eligible teachers who applied, their gender, what supports and services the new principals wished to take up.
The attached Microsoft Excel spreadsheet provides the rates of application for the role of principal from 1996 - 2005.

IPPN Survey on Principals' Workload

In October 2004, the IPPN Executive conducted a survey of 850 Irish primary school principals to determine the current concerns about their role. The main objective is to accurately represent these concerns to the Department of Education and Science (DES) working group on Principals' Workload Issues which was instigated in the summer of 2004.

IPPN Obesity Survey

Over 500 survey respondents were asked whether they:
- believed it was the School's Role to promote a healthy lifestyle?
- supported educational initiatives sponsored by various companies?
- approved of product promotion?
In addition, they were asked for their comments on these issues. The attached PDF file highlights the results and provides an overview of the comments received.
