Making best use of the Extra Hour
From September next, schools will have the equivalent of one non-contact hour per week. IPPN is putting together a possible menu of options that you may present to your staff for consultation, and subsequently to your Board of Management for approval. This is a rare opportunity to create time and space where you as Principal can have uninterrupted, high quality time with your staff for planning and organisational purposes. It is critically important that we put best practice in place and harness the opportunities that this hour provides. If you have suggestions on how best to use this time please send your ideas to Páiric Clerkin (pairicclerkin@gmail.com), who is leading this project for the Executive.
PIMS Desk Diary
The fifth edition of IPPN’s Principal’s Information Management System (PIMS) has been posted to all IPPN member schools last week. This Desk Diary is for the school year 2010-2011 and is complimentary with your membership. Please let us know if you have NOT received your copy by Tuesday 29th June. IPPN would like to acknowledge CJ Fallon, whose generous sponsorship of IPPN publications makes this possible.
IPPN Support Office open during July & August
The Support Office will remain open during the summer to provide support to IPPN members. In addition to the support staff, a rota of members of IPPN’s Executive will be available throughout the summer. This is an additional support for the high numbers of Newly Appointed Principals (NAPs) being appointed this summer and starting their school leadership role for the first time.
Buíochas
This past year has been a very challenging year for school leaders. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the many Principals and Deputies who have been generous with their time and expertise for the benefit of fellow school leaders, by serving on our National and Executive Committees, local support groups and answering the many queries posted on the Networking mailing list. We also thank the staff at the IPPN Support Office in Cork, who have worked on many projects and events, and delivered services for our members throughout the year. Finally, we wish to thank you, as a member of IPPN, for your continued participation in our network and the collegial support this provides.
We trust that you will take a well-deserved break during the summer holidays to fully relax, renew and rejuvenate. Remember, if you don’t look after yourself, it is unlikely that anyone else will.
