E-scéal 280 - Which is worse – a Board that does not work ... or... no Board?

Putting your new BoM to work
Based on information from Principals whose BoM is effective and whose members take on real responsibilities, we have compiled sample duties for the new boards due to start on 1st December. Called ‘A Guide to Best Practice’, the document contains a practical guide for Principals on briefing your new board and details the various tasks which board members could undertake.
Where Principals make it clear before the election process that being on a BoM involves real work and needs a specific skill set, there is a significant reduction in the Principal’s workload. The secret is in defining roles within your BoM for each member and presenting this to parents, teachers and community representatives before people agree to nominations.

20 minutes to a healthier you
IPPN is delighted to introduce the WellPlus Programme in association with Vhi Healthcare. This programme is designed to help you take positive steps towards identifying personal health risks and positively change your health behaviour.
The first step is to complete an online Health Risk Assessment (HRA). This is a comprehensive and confidential health questionnaire covering all factors influencing your health. It takes 20 minutes to complete and all we ask is that you are completely honest in your answers in order to get the most benefit from the assessment.
On completion, you will receive an instant health status report which provides you with a Health Risk Score and information surrounding your personal health risks. It also supports positive lifestyle changes by recommending detailed actions to improve health behaviour. Based on the level of risk highlighted in the HRA, you may be referred for follow up services including:
• Health screening (free for Vhi members and half price for non Vhi members at €100)
• Free lifestyle coaching and
• Referral to the EAS.
The Programme is 100% confidential. IPPN will not see any individual’s health data. Similarly, Vhi Healthcare will only use this information in the provision of the WellPlus services and never for the provision of health insurance.
The Programme will be rolled out on a staged basis as follows:
• Southern Region member - October 2011
• Eastern Region members - January 2012
• Western Region members - February 2012
(You will be notified by e-mail once the HRA is open to you for completion.)
