Sunday Business Post – ICT in Schools
This Sunday’s edition of the Sunday Business Post has a special supplement on Technology in Education, including an article from IPPN relating to the challenges faced by teachers and principals in relation to ICT. It also profiles some of the excellent practices happening in schools in spite of these challenges.

Mentor Volunteers Needed
Every year IPPN arranges mentor partnerships for newly-appointed principals to help them through their first year as a Principal.  The mentor provides independent professional guidance and advice on a one-to-one basis.  Due to the volume of vacancies since September 2011, we now require more volunteers for this very vital service.

A suitable mentor is one who:

• has five or more years’ experience as a principal
• has a sense of professional and personal generosity
• ‘networks’ with other principals in the normal course of his/her work
• has a ‘common sense’ approach and a practical nature
• can give some of their time either on the telephone or in person to an newly appointed principal
• is professionally approachable while being discreet and confidential
• is a good listener
• is competent and conversant in the areas of HR and conflict resolution
• has been proactive in relation to their own CPD.

If you are in a position to mentor a Newly Appointed Principal, please email Jackie at the IPPN Support Office on jackie.oreilly@ippn.ie">jackie.oreilly@ippn.ie.
