At this time of year, the anxieties and pressure of dealing with illness and staff shortages, together with preparations ahead of the Christmas holiday period, can result in a minor incident easily escalating to a major conflict. All staff get tired and anxious. This may be a good time to discuss with staff their own and others’ wellbeing. Spectrum Life through the Employee Assistance Scheme provides a variety of services to support staff wellbeing.
Professional Guidance: Review of Teaching Staff Leave Policy
As we approach December, it is timely that school Boards of Management and staff consult on a review - or the development - of a new Leave Policy in preparation for 2024 applications.
This critical policy is governed by the regulations and procedures set out in circular 0054/2019, which covers all types of leave available to teaching staff with approved contracts. Boards of Management implement these regulations and procedures and, along with teachers, must agree to the T&Cs as stated.

Evaluation of Free Primary Schoolbooks Scheme
The DE has invited IPPN to make a submission as part of an evaluation on the operation of the Free Primary Schoolbooks scheme. To ensure that IPPN’s submission reflects the experiences and perspectives of members, it would be appreciated if you would complete a short survey, which can accessed here. The survey should take only a few minutes to complete. Your responses will impact how the scheme will operate in the future.

Pathways to Sustainable Leadership
Sincere thanks to the hundreds of school leaders who participated in the Pathways to Sustainable Leadership session at last week’s principals’ conference. The meaningful engagement led to the capturing of wisdom, insights and practical tips from each of the three groups with regard to the effective sharing of leadership and maintaining a focus on our core purpose. These are being collated and will be shared with all members via next week’s E-scéal.
