At this time of year, with the many activities planned, lack of communication or a breakdown in communication often leads to conflict. When complaints arise, it is important that school policies in respect of conflict management are clearly understood by all in the school community. It is equally important that discussion takes place with regard to each person’s responsibility and the part they play in resolving conflict. Conflict is inevitable and being prepared facilitates better outcomes for all.
In Response to Member Queries - Exemption from the study of Irish
Around this time, many IPPN members are asked to grant Certificates of Exemption from the study of Irish. It is important to comply strictly with the provisions of Circular 54/2022 when making such a decision, despite pressure which some parents may try to exert. Exemptions should only be granted in exceptional circumstances.
This is a professional matter for the Principal, in discussion with the relevant teachers, parents and pupil. It goes to the heart of Teaching and Learning – the core responsibility of the Principal.

Key to progressing that work is to build support amongst stakeholders to action the key recommendations within the Sustainable Leadership report.

Grief remains a sensitive and often misunderstood topic in schools, creating additional hurdles for pupils. Educators play a vital role in creating a nurturing school environment that provides empathy and support through understanding and compassion, within appropriate boundaries.
