29 August 2024 - Message from President

In this week's E-scéal:

A message from IPPN President Louise Tobin

Mo chairde uilig, colleagues,

Fáilte mór romhaibh ar ais don bhliain scoile nua. I welcome you back to another academic year and, on behalf of the whole IPPN team, we hope it will be a successful, fruitful and happy one for all.

#Our Advocacy and Communications Committee recently completed their Position Paper on the Wellbeing of School Leaders. Please start the new school year with a clear focus on your own Wellbeing and the Wellbeing of the whole school community this year: New Year - > New Goals.

It may not have been a great summer weatherwise, but I hope you got a good break away from your workplace.

I commend those of you who were able to facilitate Summer Programmes in your schools this year. I met many parents recently who told me of the huge positive impact this had on their children and indeed their families. I am aware of the capacity building and leadership opportunities this involves and creates in many schools. “Leaders aren’t born, they are made…”.

Let’s look forward to the new school year with HOPE. Our Budget 2025 Submission is based on the challenges you experienced last school year, and asks for sustainable leadership and the funding of the resources that have the greatest impact on school leaders’ capacity to lead and manage our schools. We will continue to work on these key areas, and to support you in your work and to align our services with your needs.

I look forward to seeing as many Principals and Deputies as possible at our Autumn City/County Network Meetings and at our Principals’ Conference in November and our Deputy Principals’ Conference in February.

I leave you with a few of my favourite quotes for the start of a new school year:
Remember; no matter what happens, YOU are strong enough to handle it.
You don’t have to be perfect to be AMAZING.
Be positive, patient and persistent.
Give yourself credit for all you have done so far.
Take good care of yourselves,

Louise Tobin
IPPN President

Planning Prompts
We usually begin the year, by reminding you that these Planning Prompts do not intend to add to your workload. Every school is different with varying capacities and contexts. Some of these prompts may meet your needs and the priorities you have identified for the school this year, while others may not.
