This will be the last set of Planning Prompts until the New Year, coming with the wish that the holiday period ahead will be a time for you to rest, reflect and renew. Yet again, remember how easy it is for conflict to escalate. There will be many demands on you at this time. Do you assume that you must never say “no” to all of them? What would it feel like to say “no” to some of them?

In the first instance, we draw your attention to the circular 0064/2024 on the deployment of SET resources, and the long-awaited supporting documentation. We will issue professional guidance in January to assist you in taking account of the guidelines.

Deputy Principals: A Hidden Asset in Irish Schools? – MU Research
New research from Maynooth University sheds light on the vital yet often underappreciated role of deputy principals in Irish primary and post-primary schools. Key findings from the study include

IPPN DP Conference 2025 – Seminars
Seminars confirmed so far for the IPPN Deputy Principals’ Conference on 13 and 14 February are:

Renew your IPPN Membership by 20th December
We would like to remind you to renew your IPPN membership for the upcoming year. Please ensure that your membership form is submitted to the IPPN Support Office by 20th December to avoid any interruption in services.
Please note that if your school is not a member by 2nd January, several key supports and services will no longer be accessible.

IPPN Workshops: Making your leadership role more ‘doable’
Join us for an exciting new workshop delivered at local level throughout 2025. The workshop will provide you with the opportunity to engage with our latest resources, which have been designed to support and enhance your leadership effectiveness:
- Guide to the Leadership of Teaching and Learning
- Leadership Effectiveness Reflection Tool
- P-I-E-W – Capacity Planning Framework.
The event will also be used as an opportunity to expand the Support Group network in each county to meet the needs of 700 school leaders who have expressed an interest in availing of one.
