Professional Guidance - Behaviours of Concern
Responding to Crisis Situations: A Summary of the Guidelines
By Caroline Quinn, IPPN Leadership Support Team
As professionals, we aim to try to understand the underlying causes or triggers of behaviours of concern, in order to develop whole-school strategies to prevent, manage and modify those behaviours. It is crucial for all staff working with students to understand and consult in developing strategies to manage behaviour in a positive and supportive way that protects both students and staff.
Absences and Leave
Information about particular categories of absence and leave, both statutory and non-statutory, and whether they are substitutable, is provided in the DE resource linked below.

Global Village Schools Leadership Symposium 2025
Iveagh House, Dublin, 1st May, 10am - 2pm
***cost of substitution cover provided by Global Village*
This year’s Global Village School Leadership Symposium - Creating Inclusive Communities through Global Citizenship Education aims to support school leaders to create a welcoming and inclusive community in their school. On the day, a panel discussion will highlight the global drivers of inequality and how these impact our school learners and communities. The inclusion of teachers’/school leaders’ voices during our Teach Meet session will highlight GCE resources and programmes that bring a global lens to classroom and school activities. IPPN President Louise Tobin will deliver the closing remarks.
This event will provide primary school leaders with insights, resources, and strategies to integrate GCE into their schools, fostering a sense of global responsibility among students and staff.
Global Village is a partnership between DCU, Irish Aid, Trócaire, IPPN and INTO.
Email info@globalvillageschools.ie to register for the event.
Be Well, Lead Well
Tip #16 - Take a mini stretch break
You can do this at your desk, standing up or while you move to another part of the school.
One example is chair yoga:
