Planning Prompts
At this time of year, the danger of interpersonal conflict is everpresent. When facing a difficult situation, asking yourself two questions posed by Brené Brown in navigating choppy waters.
Do I have enough information to freak out? The answer is normally no.
Will freaking out help? The answer is always no.
Keeping calm in the face of difficulty is essential to providing a cool, measured response.

The Summer Programme Portal is now available to all schools that have registered interest with the Department of Education.
The Portal facilitates schools to source staff for the school-based Summer Programme. Job Seekers (Teachers, SNAs, Students and other eligible professionals) create notices with their location, occupation, availability per week, and experience. Schools filter and view the entries and contact Job Seekers directly.
For details on using the Summer Programme Portal, check out the EducationPosts.ie Help Centre.

25 Years of IPPN – Interview with President Virginia O’Mahony
In this series of interviews, IPPN past presidents Damian White and Pat Goff interview each of IPPN’s presidents - including each other! - from its founding in 2000 to its 25th anniversary in 2025.
These interviews provide an exceptionally rich oral history of the organisation in its first quarter century.
This week, we bring you Damian’s discussion with Virginia O’Mahony, IPPN President 2003-2005.
What does IPPN mean to you - in one word?
As part of 25 Years of IPPN celebrations, IPPN would like to capture members’ perspectives of the organisation, to create an image for inclusion in the commemorative epublication, to be launched later this year, and also in Leadership+. To that end, we ask all members to tell us what IPPN, the Network for Principals and Deputy Principals means to you, in one word!

Leadership+ Issue 137 - Legal Diary - Data Protection Toolkit for Schools
David Ruddy BL
The Data Protection Commission (DPC) has had follow-up consultations with schools and has also just published a Toolkit for Schools. This Toolkit is influenced by the DPC interactions with schools since the advent of GDPR. Apart from general guidance, it has some interesting school-based scenarios, FAQs and resources, including the following:
- The school is closed for holidays and we cannot respond to Subject Access Requests during this time – is this ok?
- The Gardaí have contacted our school requesting a child’s personal data, are we obliged to provide this information?
- Data Breach - ‘We’ve accidentally sent the school report of a child to another child’s parents’
Be Well, Lead Well
