September in school is always extremely busy. It is easy to become overwhelmed and tired. Often in the past, I have found the lunch that I brought in the morning going home with me uneaten in the afternoon. Try to ensure that you build in time for lunch. The end of the school day is usually the time to catch up on administration. The temptation can be to work longer into the day as the year goes by. Set yourself a time limit to leave the school each day. Try to stick to it. Self care is more important than ever at this time of the year.

What contribution if any does your BOM make to teachers for classroom expenses annually? Has each teacher got a template/agreed system to record expenditure and invoices? What is considered a legitimate expense? Can some of the equipment be shared to cut down on unnecessary cost?

Facilitate SET/CT meetings to draft IEPs

Have arrangements been made to facilitate class teachers to collaborate with SET/CT to formulate IEP’s? Have parents been informed and asked for their input? Will child/children be consulted?

Maintenance Work

In preparation for the next BoM meeting, areas of maintenance and repair work may need to be highlighted. With the suspension of the Summer Works Scheme and Minor Works Grant, some necessary repairs may be facilitated under Emergency Works, especially if they constitute a health and safety issue. The possibility of such works being covered under the school’s insurance policy may also need to be explored by the BoM. Preparing a budget for the year, which includes regular maintenance  is recommended.

Identify Curricular and Organisational Priorities for SDP. Consult three year plan where appropriate.

Has three year plan been update recently? Is it still relevant? Have priorities changed? Arrange staff planning meeting to prioritise areas to be addressed (Croke Park hour?) - set time line for completion of review. Set time frame for addressing priority area. Delegate! Bring revised doc to BOM Meeting for approval.
