Planning Prompt 6th Sep 2012

  • Welcome pack for New Teachers

Memo for all staff advising of personnel, procedural & organisational changes?

  • Review results of previous year’s testing (formal & informal) before long term plans are finalised

A cháirde,

Welcome to all newly appointed principals who are starting out for the first time at the beginning of a new school year and to those of you appointed during the course of the past year.  Welcome back to those of you who were appointed earlier this year.

As advised last week from today we will introduce some monthly planning prompts to assist you prioritise your work for the month ahead.  These prompts are taken directly from your PIMS Desk Diary. They may not always be applicable to your school or indeed suit your planning needs at a particular time but they do offer useful pointers as to what aspect of planning comes to the fore at particular times of the year.  Given the positive feedback from subscribers to newprincipals@ippn.ie  the Planning Prompts will now also be posted on the networking mailing list.

Go n-éirí go geal libh go léir agus tá súil agam go mbeimid in ann tacaíocht, misneach agus spreagadh a thabhairt i rith na bliana.

Le meas,

Angela Lynch

PLANNING

Welcome pack for New Teachers

Do you have a buddy system for new teachers or an NQT Mentor System in place in your school?  Enlist the help of the assigned buddy/mentor to make sure the Welcome Pack (template available in IPPN resources) is current

Memo for all staff advising of personnel, procedural & organisational changes?

Have you considered setting up an internal e –mail memo system? If not a pigeon hole system is invaluable. It is advisable to have a nominated day/date when memo’s are distributed to staff (Monday is often a good day). This sets a pattern for both yourself and staff members. Update Seniority List at this point and distribute to all staff. This should be done annually as it is extremely important. Make sure that staff know where to access all information in relation to new circulars (www.education.ie) or (www.into.ie).  It may be appropriate to copy and distribute particularly important circulars to all staff members during the school year to ensure that everyone is aware of content

Review results of previous year’s testing (formal & informal) before long term plans are finalised

Has every teacher received a copy of the most recent Standardised Test results for their class? Are teachers aware of the criteria agreed upon by SEN/CT re access to supports for the coming school year? Has differentiated homework/class work for SEN pupils been discussed with class teachers?
