Good Morning All,
Having just about reached the end of September, hopefully you are not overwhelmed by the Planning Prompts. They are intended as a guide to possible planning priorities. I stress the word priorities. It is not possible to cover everything. The secret is to decide on the areas you consider to be of most importance and to plan your time accordingly. Take credit for all the good work you have done in probably the busiest month of the school year. Beir bua!
Please remember when posting a message on the mailing list to sign off in the following manner.

After school activities
Ensure that BOM have approved all after school activities and that all adults engaging with pupils are Garda Vetted and are aware of schools Child Protection Policy. Are the activities covered by Insurance? Who is responsible for the collection of pupils after the activities conclude? Who informs parents if activities are cancelled/postponed?
Junior Infant Induction Meeting
This is an ideal opportunity to advertise school based activities for parents eg English Language Classes, Parenting Courses. Junior Infant Parents are often enthusiastic about joining the PA and it may be an ideal time to have the PA chairperson/secretary present to give a five minute outline of the work the PA do. It is important to keep parents up to date on revised school procedures or policies which directly affect parents. It is a good idea to make them aware of how complaints are processed and to make the Complaints Procedure for parents available to them.
Curriculum Planning
Make sure that all staff are aware of the type of long term planning which is required – and stress the importance of collaborative planning particularly at class group level. Set aside time to address this collaborative planning (Croke Park Hour). Have you prioritised this term’s curricular planning area for review? Who is delegated to review existing policy and highlight possible areas of concern? Make sure that revised policies are approved by BOM and signed by Chairperson
Resources
Who has responsibility for keeping an inventory of resources? Can this be delegated? Where are resources stored? Is there a communal key? Where is PE equipment stored?
Timetables
Have you a copy of all class timetables and all resource/support timetables? Where are Supervision Timetables displayed? Do you retain copies of these timetables in case of queries re playground incidents/accidents?
