E-sceal 531 - Re-vetting of teachers with GCVU letters
- Published: 04 October 2018
The Teaching Council has begun (Monday, 1 October) its process of vetting teachers, who hold vetting from the Garda Central Vetting Unit (GCVU). Teachers will be requested to apply for re-vetting for a new National Vetting Bureau (NVB) disclosure via the online system five months prior to their membership renewal.
Re-vetting letters will be issued to this cohort of teachers on a monthly basis, which will be linked to each teacher’s renewal date. A NVB vetting disclosure will be required in order for registration to be renewed.
Failure to complete this vetting will result in a teacher’s membership lapsing, which will prevent them from working in their school and being salaried by the DES. If a teacher does not complete the vetting, he/she will not be able to renew registration and will lapse from the Register which means he/she cannot to receive a State-funded salary.
Teachers are advised to wait until they are requested to apply for re-vetting, unless they intend to change jobs/schools as set out in DES Circular 31/2016.
