Sub Seeker Responds to Substitute Teacher Shortage
- Published: 22 April 2021
Sub Seeker has 263 registered substitute teachers with some availability over the next 10 days. There have been a number of updates to the Sub Seeker service over the past weeks in response to member feedback and the difficulties that schools are experiencing in recruiting a substitute teacher. New and improved features of Sub Seeker include:
- Schools can offer a substitute vacancy to multiple teachers. Teachers shortlisted for a substitute position will be notified by email. The system works on a ‘first come first served’ basis, whereby the first teacher to accept a position will be successful
- Schools can search for substitute teachers where required immediately in a school and up to 10 days in advance of a notified absence
- Sub Seeker enables teachers to mark themselves available to substitute at both primary and post primary levels at the same time
- Teachers qualified under Routes 1-4 are available on Sub Seeker for substitute teaching. The 5-day rule does not apply to teachers registered with Sub Seeker
Note: If you cannot find a substitute teacher, it is critical to log it on Sub Seeker using the ‘No subs available’ tick box, as this will provide accurate statistics that can be presented to the Teaching Council and the DE as evidence of the scale of the issue in schools.
