New leash of life: four-legged friend helps Orla out on her first day back [Independent.ie]

A YOUNG girl made the leap into secondary school yesterday with the help of her new best friend, assistance dog Alice.

Orla Jordan (12) started the new term at Colaiste Cois Life in Lucan, Co Dublin, yesterday with Alice by her side.

The student has cerebral palsy, which causes involuntary movements of her limbs and body and makes walking extremely difficult. Despite making great strides learning to walk with two sticks, it was the arrival of her assistance dog several months ago that gave Orla the independence she craved.
