Ministers fail us, citizens do not [Independent.ie]

At times of crisis, this Government is its own worst enemy. At the start of the recession Brian Cowen and his ministers thought they could avert it by ignoring it: the fundamentals of the economy are sound, they parroted, while the bottom fell out of it.

When floods devastated parts of the country last year, government ministers appeared paralysed, uncertain who was in charge and still unable to say who has responsibility for managing Ireland's waterways. And now, as the country freezes in sub-zero temperatures, the Government fails to respond with any sense of urgency until it is too late to make a difference.
