ASTI calls for trainee teachers to get a year in schools [Independent.ie]

SECOND-LEVEL teacher graduates should be guaranteed a year's apprenticeship in schools when they leave college, according to a teachers' union.
It would give them vital experience, while providing schools with extra resources at a time of cutbacks, the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland (ASTI) has maintained.
The union said the biggest winners would be students, who would enjoy a better-quality education service.
ASTI president Joe Moran said the whole issue of the way teachers are allocated to schools required an overhaul and that a new system should include an induction year for new graduates.
