8th January 2010 - TextaParent: Just-in time school information for parents

The greatest challenge facing Principals this weekend is how to inform parents if their child’s school will be open or closed on Monday (11th January).  TextaParent.ie is a service provided by the Irish Primary Principals’ Network (IPPN) used to send instant messages to parents and staff.  The severe weather conditions forecasted to continue for at least another week will leave parents and Principals in a state of uncertainty.

Hundreds of Principals have contacted IPPN’s Support Office in the last three days in order to avail of the TextaParent service.  ‘In order to support Principals with the huge challenge of communicating with large numbers of parents, the IPPN Support Office will remain open tomorrow Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th to facilitate Principals who wish to activate a TextaParent account’ said IPPN Director, Seán Cottrell.  During the weekend many Principals will be consulting with their Chairperson in deciding on whether their school will be open or closed on Monday 11th January and in most cases that decision will be made on Sunday.

IPPN President, Pat Goff stated that ‘we have received hundreds of calls in the last few days from Principals wishing to avail of the TextaParent service.  Principals who have already used the instant text messaging service have received very positive feedback from parents who appreciate the effort made to keep them informed’.

In order to facilitate Principals at this difficult time, our support office staff will be available by telephone from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Saturday and Sunday.  Alternatively, Principals can register their request for the TextaParent service by emailing info@ippn.ie
