IPPN acknowledge that the overall budget for primary education in 2014 is largely intact. It is perceived that the message to government from the National Alliance for Primary Education (NAPE) was heard. The much feared increase in class size thankfully will not happen in 2014. Budget 2012, however, saw small schools having an increase in class size as part of a three year cycle, which is still currently being implemented.
30 September 2013 - Restoration of Maintenance Grants Crucial To Schools’ Survival
The policy of withdrawing maintenance grants from schools will prove detrimental to the fabric of school buildings. Even a new building requires regular maintenance and failure to do so only postpones the inevitable.
Irish Primary Principals’ Network (IPPN) has recently reported in its pre-budget submission to the Department that many primary schools across the island of Ireland are gradually falling into disrepair due to the fact that the Minor Works Grant and the Summer Works Scheme were discontinued in recent education cutbacks.
2 September 2013 - IPPN Responds to Minister Quinn’s Draft Admission to Schools Bill
Irish Primary Principals’ Network (IPPN) welcome the Minister’s statement on a draft Admission to Schools bill and anything that brings equity to enrolment opportunities for children in Irish schools. To achieve this it is imperative that there must be adequate resourcing of all schools to ensure that all children have an equal opportunity within the system. IPPN believe that there should never be discrimination against any child or family on the basis of gender, ethnicity, religion or having special education needs.
25th June 2013 - Reversal of special needs cut comes as ‘huge relief’, says IPPN
The decision by the Government to reverse the cut to special educational needs teaching resources will come as a huge relief to children, school principals, teachers and families, according to the Irish Primary Principals’ Network (IPPN), the professional body for primary school leaders.
