To sustain oneself as a school leader, you have to prioritise and stick to those priorities. P-I-E-W is a framework for managing capacity in terms of SSE and SIP. It provides the school with a way to communicate very positively with everyone. The ideas/initiatives from parents, BoM, community, inspectorate and DE are usually very good ideas. However, they cannot be prioritised or implemented, until viewed in the context of the school’s SIP. None is discounted. Rather they are included in the W column of P-I-E-W.
Professional Guidance – In-person Summer Programme in Special Schools – Special School Student Teacher Placements
Special Schools who are running an in-person programme have been given leave to employ graduate teachers and PME student teachers who are in their final year to work as a student teacher in a Special School and on the Summer Programme.
As the guidance indicates – “Schools can recruit up to two student teachers from the 3rd week in May 2024 (or on completion of exams) until the end of the school based summer programme. This will allow student teachers to gain valuable relevant experience in a special education setting and will assist special schools during a very busy period in their school year. It will also assist with familiarisation and preparation leading into a summer programme.”
Extended deadline for Health & Wellbeing Survey
Due to recent high levels of activity with the survey, Deakin University has extended the closing date to Friday 26th.

Leadership+ - The importance of knowing and sharing purpose
Patricia Mannix McNamara, Professor of Education, University of Limerick
Human beings have a natural inclination to seek meaning and purpose in our lives. It can be destabilising when we begin to question why we do, what we do, or reflect upon how we lead, and the influences that shape our leadership approach. Taking the time to gain clarity about our purpose, and how our leadership enhances our purpose, is probably the most important self-development work that we can do as leaders.

NCCA Consultation - Redeveloped Primary School Curriculum
Consultation on the redeveloped Primary School Curriculum is well underway. It is important that as many teachers and school leaders as possible have their say on the proposals. The feedback gathered from this consultation will be analysed and reported upon, and will ultimately contribute to the finalisation of the five draft curriculum specifications.
There are a number of ways you can have your say including online questionnaires, a written submission form and more. Find out more on NCCA’s consultation webpage.
