Special needs system shake-up to improve support of pupils [Guardian.co.uk]

Ed Balls, the schools secretary, will today announce new measures to provide better support for disabled children and pupils with special educational needs.
The proposals will aim to make the process of assessing a child's needs easier and more independent, responding to complaints from parents that getting extra help for their children is often a difficult and protracted battle.
The government will look at taking assessment of pupils with special educational needs (SEN) out of the hands of local authorities, which, according to parents' groups, consider the cost of a child's education when assessing their needs.

Ba é an tOllamh David Crystal, scríbhneoir, eagarthóir, léachtóir agus craoltóir, a bhronn an Lipéad Teanga orthu ag an searmanas ceiliúrtha i Farmleigh i mBaile Átha Cliath inniu.
Dúirt an Dr Muiris Ó Laoire, Cathaoirleach Giúiré Náisiúnta na hÉireann, go bhfuil 'raidhse eolais agus ábhar (modhanna agus straitéisí múinte is foghlama san áireamh) curtha ar fáil ag buaiteoirí an Lipéid d'fhoghlaimeoirí agus do theagascóirí araon.' Spreagann tionscadail na mbuaiteoirí an foghlaimeoir ar shlí éifeachtach tháirgiúil chun tabhairt faoi shealbhú na sprioctheanga agus chun dearcaí dearfacha sochtheangeolaíochta chomh maith le húsáid teanga a chur chun cinn i measc an phobail.
