24th June 2010 - Principals Urge Parents To Make It A Summer To Remember

The eight year primary school cycle for 50,000 pupils will come to an end today (Friday 25th June) as they will bid farewell to their primary schools for the last time.  Irish Primary Principals’ Network (IPPN) President, Pat Goff said ‘For many parents, the summer holiday provides a slower pace with fun family outings.  This summer, perhaps parents could use the natural amenities around them to increase their children’s awareness and expand and develop their learning.  It is well documented that it is beneficial for children to engage in some educational activity over the summer’.

9th June 2010 - Primary School Principal…A Job With No Takers

Fifteen schools without a Principal due to lack of interest

One in four primary schools in the last two years did not have a permanent appointed Principal.  In the last 6 months, fifteen schools needed to advertise for a Principal at least twice, and many of these schools are still operating with only an Acting Principal.  Schools in Kerry, Clare and Galway have recently advertised Principalship vacancies for the third time according to figures released from EducationPosts.ie.

4th June 2010 - Teaching New Dogs Old Tricks

The 400 Principal teachers retiring from Primary schools in this school year is a massive loss of experience and tacit knowledge to the education system. There are 3,350 primary schools in the country and between 2009 and 2010, one in four of their Principals will have left the role.  This exodus will impact significantly on the quality of leadership at Primary level for years to come according to the Irish Primary Principals’ Network (IPPN) President, Pat Goff.

29th April 2010 - Department Cutting Special Education by Stealth

The claim by the Department of Education and Skills that special education has been spared the full brunt of the recent cutbacks is not believable, as it does not reflect the reality on the ground claim the Irish Primary Principals' Network (IPPN).
