24th March 2010 - Primary Principals Raise €40k For Haiti Children’s Education

In response to a suggestion from Principals attending the annual conference of the Irish Primary Principals’ Network (IPPN), more than €40,000 has been raised by primary schools for the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund.  The money raised will be specifically targeted towards re-building and equipping primary schools that were devastated by the earthquake.  In addition, funds will also be used for health and education programmes in the worst affected areas.  IPPN Director, Seán Cottrell said 'attending school has been identified as a crucial therapy for traumatised children.  School re-establishes their daily routine and provides a safe place that they can escape to for a few hours every day’.

28th January 2010 Leading Schools Through Recession is Principals’ Greatest Challenge

Children's right to a fully resourced education system must not be sacrificed at the altar of fiscal rectitude. This is the key message to be delivered by Irish Primary Principals' Network President, Pat Goff to 1,000 Principals at the annual three day IPPN conference which opens today Thursday 28th January in Citywest Hotel and Convention Centre, Co Dublin. 'The challenge for Principals is to ensure that pupils do not pay for this recession and that schools continue to provide quality learning, even with fewer resources and dwindling morale' states Mr Goff.

28th January 2010 Procedures for Dealing with Underperforming Teachers are Flawed

'It is professionally irresponsible to implement a departmental circular on the procedures for the suspension and dismissal of the small number of teachers who are underperforming without the required training and resources' stated IPPN President, Pat Goff at the IPPN Annual Conference in Citywest Hotel & Convention Centre, Co. Dublin (today Thursday 28th January). The circular (60/2009) cannot be effectively implemented as the agreed panel of retired and serving Principals who are to provide advice and guidance to Boards of Management has not been set up, continued Mr Goff.

28th January 2010 Child protection the absolute first priority

The President of the Irish Primary Principals' Network (IPPN), Mr. Pat Goff, today Thursday, Jan 28th called for an immediate census of the 400 or so Newly Appointed Principals in our nation's schools to ascertain whether all have had training as Designated Liaison Persons (DLPs). A DLP is the person ultimately responsible for Child Protection in a particular school. Addressing 1,000 Principals, the largest ever gathering of Principals on this island, Mr. Goff reiterated IPPN's previous call for those in a position of authority in our schools who neglect to uphold the rights of children to step aside from their role.
