Key Dates - April 2022

Monday 9 May 2022, teachers and schools should:

  • Notify the relevant Panel Operator of any permanent or fixed term vacancy
  • Return Main Redeployment Panel Application Form (Appendix E) for surplus permanent/CID holding teachers to the Department’s Primary Teacher Allocations Section
  • Return Form SET cluster 2022/23 (Appendix D) to the Department’s Primary Teacher Allocations Section to notify new Special Education Teacher cluster arrangements
  • Return CID Declaration Form 22 (Appendix G) in respect of all teachers awarded a CID in or before the 2021/22 school year and a Main Panel Application Form, if applicable, to the Department’s Primary Teacher Allocations Section
  • Submit completed Staffing Appeals Form (Appendix F) for the May meeting of the Primary Staffing Appeals Board to the Department’s Primary Teacher Allocations Section
  • Submit applications for Principal Release Day clusters.

NCSE – Monday 25 April – Friday 20 May - In circumstances where a school considers the school profile has been incorrectly calculated using the data set out in the Circular, an appeal may be submitted for a review of the allocation calculation using the NCSE Appeals Form 1.

Saturday 30 April is the final closing date for receipt of eligible qualification allowance applications (DE Circular 63/2021)

€20 million School Library Book Grant

€20 million is provided to recognised primary and post-primary schools for the purchase of books, audio books and other media. The Department has advised that the grant will issue to schools in the coming weeks and is additional to that already given for the schoolbooks rental scheme. Guidance from the DE, supported by the library service, will issue to schools on the best use of this funding.

Extension of the ‘Say Yes to Languages’

The Minister for Education, Norma Foley, announced an extension of the ‘Say Yes to Languages’ primary languages sampler module for the 2022/2023 school year. The length of the module will be increased from 6 to 8 weeks. The grant to schools participating in the module is being increased to €400 per class, up to a maximum of €1,600. The module is aimed at 3rd to 6th classes and the school can select the language of choice depending on its demographic and school context.

Covid-19 Capitation Grant Funding

Covid-19 Capitation Grant funding will be provided for Term 3 of the 2021/22 school year to support schools in implementing infection prevention and control measures. The funding will issue to schools shortly. Monies are required to be spent for the purpose as outlined in Circulars 45/2020, 46/2020 and 50/2021. Any unspent Covid-19 Capitation funding for the 2021/2022 school year should be returned to the Department by 30 September 2022.

Appointment of HSCL Coordinator

An extension of the DEIS programme was announced by the Minister in March 2022.  Schools approved DEIS status are now eligible to access the HSCL as part of the DEIS School Support Programme (SSP).  Following the issuing of the staffing circular, schools qualifying  for HSCL supports will be notified of their full/shared entitlement by the Department in the coming days.  Tusla Education Support Services (TESS) will provide schools shortly with details of webinar supports available during May.
