Registration for Principal and Deputy Principal Health and Wellbeing Survey

If you haven’t already done so, please use the following LINK to register for the Principal and Deputy Principal Health and Wellbeing survey

For those who have registered and who have progressed to completing the survey, the researchers have added the eircode to assist you in finding your school from the drop-down list. If you cannot find your school name, they now advise that you search by using your eircode. A note has now been added to the survey to advise participants to do this. Finally, the researchers say if you are still having trouble, you can select ‘Other’ and you will be able to manually enter your school name.

All members are encouraged to undertake and get involved in this important research survey. The higher the participation level, the more persuasive the data and the stronger the message to stakeholders will be.

CSL Bespoke Mentoring

  • CSL has worked closely with IPPN and NAPD to develop this extra support
  • Principals who find themselves in significant challenge can access the support through IPPN when they engage with the IPPN Professional Guidance Service
  • They can also contact CSL directly by emailing Deputy Director Anna Mai Rooney at amrooney@cslireland.ie
  •  A number of experienced and recently retired school leaders have trained as bespoke mentors by undergoing a bespoke coaching and mentoring training programme, which also includes supervision or reflective practice
  • An initial exploratory session with a bespoke mentor will be followed by three one to one 90 minute meetings
  • Further sessions may be available if needed

Review of the School Transport Scheme – Have your say

The Department of Education has requested IPPN to assist in gathering information from schools regarding the School Transport Scheme. The DE is particularly interested in hearing from school leaders of special schools, but are keen to get input from all types of primary schools. If you would like to submit suggestions and comments regarding School Transport, please consider the following aspects and email them to project@ippn.ie by Wednesday 9 March.

Issues re.

  • Advice and guidance for the employment of school bus escorts
  • Difficulty in sourcing/retaining school bus escorts
  • Special Educational Needs
  •  -  Length of time pupils with special educational needs spend travelling on transport services
  •  -  Issues that arise for children on SEN services where it is advised that the school of attendance is not the closest resourced to meet the child’s needs.
  •  -  length of time required to establish SEN services

Criteria

  • Distance criteria - 3.2km at primary level: considered too far for some children/families
  • Nearest school criteria – nearest school is not always the parish school. Families may have strong connections to their parish for other things such as sport and community reasons, but the school that is eligible for transport is not their parish school.
    -  Any other aspects of managing school transport in schools.

Sustainable Leadership Project – Member Engagement

The work on the Sustainable Leadership project has been progressing well and is now ready to move to the next phase which involves engagement with membership. This is by far the most important aspect of the project as engagement with you, the wider membership of IPPN, will inform the process of identifying both issues and potential solutions to the sustainability of school leadership.

IPPN aims to secure your direct feedback and opinions by facilitating structured conversations about the different elements of the project. The rich feedback received from that process will inevitably be of great help in challenging and refining the project thinking.

The plan is to hold online meetings for each of the six themes of the project. The dates for those meetings are as follows

Date Theme

  • Tuesday 22nd March – Effective Leadership & Core Purpose
  • Thursday 24th March – Preparation for Leadership
  • Tuesday 29th March – Recruitment (of School Leaders)
  • Thursday 31st March – Time & Space to Lead
  • Tuesday 5th April – Sharing & Supporting Leadership
  • Thursday 7th April – Governance & Boards of Management

Each of the meetings will start at 3.30 pm and involve an overview of the project being presented before facilitated discussion groups are convened. If you have an interest in participating in any of these meetings, you will be able to register from Thursday, 3rd March. You can register for more than one meeting if you have an interest in more than one of the themes. You will receive project materials relating to the theme of the meeting for which you register, in advance of the meeting, to ensure that you have an opportunity to engage with them and there is an informed discussion at the meeting.

You will be provided with details of how to register for the meetings closer to the time and hope that you will avail of this opportunity to feed into this important project for IPPN and school leaders.
