Free preschool places still available [IrishExaminer]

CHILDCARE providers are making a last minute appeal to parents whose children are due to start school in September to apply for their free preschool place as the new scheme is due to kick off next week.
It’s believed that more than 90% of playschools and creches have signed up to the scheme, which was announced in Budget 2009. However, according to the NCNA, there are still many places still unfilled.

Trim school principal swap a first for Ireland [Themeathchronicle.ie]

Australian principal Mark Moloney takes over at the helm of St Mary's NS Convent Primary School in Trim this week following his job swap with long-time local school principal, Cóilín " Coigligh.
Both school principals are taking part in an exchange programme for a year, the first time this has happened in Ireland, though similar arrangements are already in place between Australia and several countries around the world.

Snow forces schools to remain shut [IrishTimes]

A large number of schools are to remain closed for the rest of week due to heavy snow and icy conditions across many areas of the country.
The vast majority were due to reopen tomorrow after the Christmas holidays but many have decided to remain closed due to the severity of the conditions.
