Final Junior Cert exam likely to be in June 2012 [IrishTimes]

THE JUNIOR Cert exam will continue in its current, much-criticised form for three more years.

One source said there was “no possibility’’ of the exam being postponed next June – in order to yield a saving of €30 million.

But education sources refused to comment on a Sunday Tribune report this option was discussed recently in Cabinet.

Northern Ireland invests further €28 million in Classroom 2000 [Silicon Republic]

The breath-taking speed of roll out of technology in Northern Ireland schools continues apace with news that HP has been awarded a contract valued at €28 million to extend its work in the groundbreaking Classroom 2000 (C2k) initiative.

The contract, which was awarded by the Western Education and Library Board, will see HP’s involvement in the C2k project extend from five to seven years as part of the provision of a managed service.

Teachers and lecturers vote on industrial action [educationmatters.ie]

60,000 educators who are members of the ASTI, INTO and TUI will be balloted on industrial action this week in response to threats to their pay.

The three unions - which are working together in a co-ordinated way with other public sector unions - are urging their members to vote yes to industrial action.
