PRIMARY principals have insisted that they are giving priority to newly qualified teachers for substitution work but said graduates could be taken off the dole if the Government set up a supply panel system.
Around 20 groups of primary schools around the country share teams of teachers to cover sick leave, administrative leave for principals and other absences, meaning there is no difficulty in arranging substitution or other cover at short notice.

Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe is to consider a scheme of work placement for newly qualified teachers who can't find employment.
The idea, proposed by Labour, would arrange for jobless graduates to work in classrooms alongside colleagues who have full-time employment.

The Doodle 4 Google competition is open to all primary and secondary school children in Ireland and those entering are asked to create a doodle on and around the Google logo based on the theme 'My Future.'
The winning doodle will be viewed by millions of internet users when it is placed on the Google homepage in Ireland on 3rd March 2010.

Sligo schools to the fore at film festival [sligochampion.ie]

Two local national schools have won awards for their film entries at the National FÍS Film Festival in the Helix at Dublin City University last week.
St Aiden's National School in Monasteraden who won an award for most Outstanding Achievement in Film Making for 'Documentary' with their film 'The Train from Ballaghdereen to Kilfree.'
