Based on information from Principals whose BoM is effective and whose members take on real responsibilities, we have compiled sample duties for the new boards due to start on 1st December. Called ‘A Guide to Best Practice’, the document contains a practical guide for Principals on briefing your new board and details the various tasks which board members could undertake.

In anticipation of the appointment of new Boards of Management from 1st December 2011, the Department has updated the rules governing the appointment and functioning of the new Boards of Management.
1. The Rules of Procedure booklet is now available on ippn.ie. Ten copies of the booklet will be distributed to each primary school in the coming weeks. A hardcopy must be provided to each person appointed to the new Board of Management and the remaining two copies must be provided to the Parent’s Association.
2. Details of the timeframe for elections to the new Boards of Management are contained in Circular 0064/2011.

The revised ‘Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post Primary Schools’ have now been published and are available to download from ippn.ie. Circular 0065/2011 - Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post Primary Schools has also been published. Hardcopies of the circular will be sent to schools next week.

As a result of recent queries to the IPPN Support Office in relation to Garda vetting, Statutory Declaration and the 'Form of Undertaking' as part of recruitment procedures, we wish to draw your attention to Circular 63/2010 which became a requirement for school authorities on the 1st January 2011.
The main elements of this circular are:
Thorough recruitment procedures must always be followed and are an essential element of Child Protection practice. Vetting does not take the place of recruitment procedures, but is to be used as part of those procedures
